Théâtre ‘Le Quai’
Programme: Theatre of 971 seats, flexible auditorium of 400 seats, drama school and dance school, restaurant.
The Front de Maine theatre is a major building for the town of Angiers and its region. This building is the vector of cultural dynamism which has at work in Angiers for many years now.
Developed around the “creation, training, urban animation” trend, the theatre’s architecture enhances urbanity and ensures the link between the town, performance areas and the two schools.
The Front de Maine theatre is an area of creation of live shows, where three rhythms co-evolve:
- the rhythm of performance, which requires preserved and autonomous venues;
- the rhythm of audience, who requires venues inserted within the urban space;
- the rhythm of dance and drama schools, which require specific educational grounds, but which are nevertheless strongly linked to the town’s daily evolution.
The architectural means of creating this link between the town and the theatre is to build a peristyle open onto the town, by framing magnificient views on King René Castle.
The building is subject to a sustainable design scheme, in the sense that the environmental challenge is to integrate this venue in its urban surroundings, whilst preserving its cultural dimension.
